About Us

Tommy and Josh

For more than 27 years, Golden Retrievers have been a part of our family. Several years ago, we fell in love with the Hungarian Vizsla and added them to our canine family.  We decided to create a small kennel so that we could breed a limited number of puppies for other families to enjoy. We are a Christ centered family with our focus on Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. We live on five acres overlooking Southern California wine country, and where our dogs have room to run and roam freely.

We have two sons, our oldest Tommy who trains, handles and shows all our dogs as well as client dogs, he is also going to Mt. San Jacinto College in Menifee, CA. to receive a degree in business and currently works at The Laundered Mutt and Training Center in Temecula, CA.

Our youngest, Josh, is very active in Boy Scouts and has achieved the highest rank of Eagle Scout, and graduated from California Lutheran High School June 2009. Josh graduated from the USAF (United States Air Force) Basic Military Training June 11th, 2010 with very honorable achievements!

Samantha winning Best of Breed with our Ashton!
Samantha came to the Canyon Ridge family around 5 years ago. She and Tommy grew to  be very good friends and started to travel with us to shows and help show our dogs.  Her primary breed then was English Setters and showed her Mom's Border Terriers, but at that time she had been working with top golden retriever breeders and handlers and now has fallen deeply in love with the breed.  Samantha has had great success in junior showmanship and confirmation.   She has now begun her journey to breed champion golden retrievers along side with us.  Samantha is now  the PHA (Professional Handlers Association) Assistant to our good friend and professional handler Lynda O'connor - Schneider, and Samantha looks forward to being a top handler as well.  We are very happy to say that Tommy and Samantha have been together for 4 1/2 years now and wish them continuous success and happiness.

We show our dogs in AKC and International show conformation events and we soon hope to travel to Canada for CKC shows. We are very pleased with our dogs show accomplishments. Our dogs are a big part of our family, and are given lots of individual attention. We have large play areas for them when they are unable to be up at the house with us. Puppies are born and raised in our home, where they are loved and individually socialized, making it easier for them to adjust to their new homes.  Our dogs are registered with the American Kennel Club.  We breed only certified healthy dogs to produce healthy puppies. All of our dogs have must have their OFA (Hips and Elbows)/prelims, heart clearance & CERF (yearly) before entering into our breeding program. We strive for excellent health, temperament and conformation from champion bloodlines. Being only a small, responsible kennel, we have only a few litters a year, as quality is more important to us than quantity.

Puppies are carefully examined by our veterinarian before they are placed with their new families. They receive their first set of vaccinations (Progard 5), and have been de-wormed 2 to 3 times. We do everything possible to ensure that you receive a healthy, happy puppy.   Pet quality puppies are sold on a limited registration to prevent irresponsible breeding. We require that they be spayed or neutered at the appropriate age to help stop the overpopulation of unwanted dogs in shelters.

We highly recommend that potential buyers have researched the breed and are ready to accept the responsibilities (both time and financial) that go along with owning a large, active breed. A fenced yard and home with adequate room is essential. We also recommend that new owners attend puppy obedience classes with their new pup to help it reach it's full potential as a wonderful family companion. We recommend enrolling in puppy obedience training classes, which should include crate training, leash training and basic obedience training (come, sit, stay, down).
